Embalming
Embalming is the process of chemically treating a human body in order to preserve and disinfect the body. When this procedure is required, it is carried out by a licensed embalmer under strict conditions in our mortuaries.
Embalming may be chosen at any time, however it is usually carried out for some specific purposes, such as -
- when there is a longer than average delay between death and the funeral
- it is necessary to transfer the deceased interstate or overseas
- when above ground burial in a crypt or vault occurs.
Embalmers and mortuary staff also have an important role to play in preparing the body for a viewing. This is particularly significant in the case of sudden and traumatic deaths, when viewing of the body is a part of the grieving process.
